Mel was a Cockatiel, pet of a prestigious household,
She was easy going & friendly, did everything exactly how she was told.
She knew out there was a zenith full of stars,
But she was trained to be content watching from afar.
Things started to change when she saw a flock out the cage rings,
Mel noticed there was not much room to spread her own beautiful wings.
Her shed was nothing as compared to the big wide sky,
It’s now clear how far she could go, whatever she was told was a lie.
The stifled atmosphere was bothering her, she had to admit,
She used to brighten the place with her melody, but now she felt more like a misfit.
Realizing her complains & melancholy were not being heard,
One day she got away to join the free birds.
Now flying high, free and wild…
She was enjoying the days of her new life.
But when the solitude instilled over the years towered over,
The savage sky started disrupting her steady composure.
Mel looked back n forth, feeling confused and dimwit…
How come in her dream home also, she felt like a misfit.
Mel, still a pet of her past – is stuck in the middle now,
No one to lean on, nowhere to go somehow…
All those birds seem so happy when they fly high,
It’s hard for her with this baggage but she must try.
Like Mel, you strive to unlearn a life imprinted on your chronicle,
To get a fresh start, to forget what made you who you are – is impossible.
You must keep endeavoring towards what you want to become,
But you can’t efface the footprints on the road where you are coming from.
Take one day at a time when the days are hard and you feel numb,
‘Cause childhood is what you spend the rest of your life trying to overcome.
