There you are

There you are…
Having the time of your life.
Looks like you are the life of this party,
Enjoying the company of your tribe.

My mind suddenly started playing the flashback,
Showing me glimpse of the memories we shared.
Every moment came alive in front of my eyes,
I haven’t forgotten anything, that’s how much I have always cared.

Do you remember the town where we grew up?
There was a bench in the front porch of your house.
We used to play there as little children,
Never minding the ever-staring crowd.

Everyone wanted to be your friend back then,
They liked your shiny toys I suppose…
I wasn’t the smartest or the coolest kid,
But still I was the one the little you chose.

Do you remember the picnic where you first made my cry?
I never knew how to dance but still wanted to try.
So, I gathered some courage and stood up from my chair.
Started to move my body but without any flair.
Everyone was laughing while my eyes were searching for you,
Years have passed yet I vividly remember that view…
There you were…
Playing with your new friends who were both cool and smart,
You were pointing at me and mocking,
with every cackle we were moving miles apart.
Something broke that day…
Maybe an unsaid promise or a fragile heart.

Today I am again dancing,
And having the time of my life.
Thinking how I was lucky enough,
To find my own tribe.

And there you are…
With a bunch of new faces around.
I hope your shiny toys are not the only things
That these cool kids have found.

I found myself glancing at your way, but your eyes never met mine.
We all somehow move on leaving all the bittersweet memories behind.
I sure might have been forgotten in your story,
But you always stayed somewhere in the back of my mind.

Mel the Misfit

Mel was a Cockatiel, pet of a prestigious household,
She was easy going & friendly, did everything exactly how she was told.
She knew out there was a zenith full of stars,
But she was trained to be content watching from afar.

Things started to change when she saw a flock out the cage rings,
Mel noticed there was not much room to spread her own beautiful wings.
Her shed was nothing as compared to the big wide sky,
It’s now clear how far she could go, whatever she was told was a lie.
The stifled atmosphere was bothering her, she had to admit,
She used to brighten the place with her melody, but now she felt more like a misfit.

Realizing her complains & melancholy were not being heard,
One day she got away to join the free birds.
Now flying high, free and wild…
She was enjoying the days of her new life.

But when the solitude instilled over the years towered over,
The savage sky started disrupting her steady composure.
Mel looked back n forth, feeling confused and dimwit…
How come in her dream home also, she felt like a misfit.
Mel, still a pet of her past – is stuck in the middle now,
No one to lean on, nowhere to go somehow…
All those birds seem so happy when they fly high,
It’s hard for her with this baggage but she must try.

Like Mel, you strive to unlearn a life imprinted on your chronicle,
To get a fresh start, to forget what made you who you are – is impossible.
You must keep endeavoring towards what you want to become,
But you can’t efface the footprints on the road where you are coming from.
Take one day at a time when the days are hard and you feel numb,
‘Cause childhood is what you spend the rest of your life trying to overcome.

Beneath the Stars

Hi… I am just a girl in her baggy sweatshirt, alone in this starry night,
Finding comfort in the cool summer breeze, and the silent moonlight.

Sitting on the stairs, thinking Beneath the Stars with her eyes closed…
So tired of always being the epitome of same old calm & composed.

If only I could stay here & make the time still…
If only my unsaid words were heard, I know they never will.

Suddenly I heard footsteps, I was startled for a while…
“Mind if I sit here?” he asked with a childlike smile.

His frat boy persona is charming! – Heart whispered for me to know,
He seems nice! – Brain confirmed after the obvious first intro.

“I hate when I can’t sleep,
God knows why all these random thoughts live in my head.
You know when I was little,
I wanted a job that allowed me to stay up all night. “
– he innocently said.
“A house with the largest slide at the entrance – that was mine!”
Raising my hand, I blurted out, admitting that I was also one of his kind.

He started laughing, and I joined in before I knew.
Looks like a harmless fellow…
Would it be alright if I share a secret or two?

“Someone’s judging me!” he narrowed his eyes with a side glance.
“Ma’am I can be a delightful companion,
If you can just give me a chance.”

“What were you thinking before I came?” he asked, fumbling for something in his pocket.
My Brain warned me to be quiet, but Heart had its own plans to block it.

He was playing with the colorful candy in his hand, waiting for me to reply.
“Sometimes I struggle with coming in terms to my age” – I gloomily sighed!

Leisurely he looked up to face me with a strange warmth in his eyes.
The aura he radiated was making me reckless with my words, I realized!

“OK Lady Peter Pan, a couple of Poppins should be fine, I suppose?”
“Sure, why not? But not the purple one, I examined, scrunching my nose.”
We argued over the candy flavors for a little bit,
For those few seconds, we were giggling like small kids.
“Well, if something makes us smile, maybe it’s not that bad.”
I can’t really describe, but there was something so comforting in his voice when he said that!

I couldn’t help but fall for the words of this friendly stranger.
Sitting beside a girl in the empty ground,
unknowingly trying to change her.

We talked for hours about everything – the Black, the White & the Grey…
I can’t believe how easily I confessed,
the things out loud I never say!

Well I never really asked for his number or his last name,
And neither he did mine…
Still the stories we shared made it feel like,
We knew each other since the start of our times.

The stars were fading slowly, we know that time has flown,
As we heard the birds chirping, it was already break of the dawn.
We got up & silently walked around with the changing sky,
“Hey… don’t forget me!” he had said when we exchanged our Goodbyes.

This guy in that loose blue denim with a wide smile,
Turned around and waved at me from a distance…
They say the Knight in Shining Armor is different for every girl,
I know how mine looked like, in that instant.

And in the blink of an eye he was gone,
Leaving behind the same girl in her baggy sweatshirt all alone.

You might say what’s so special about talking to someone Beneath the Stars…
Let me tell you…
I’ve lived a piece of my long-lost fairy tale in these few hours!!!
